Fircroft is a residential college occupying a former Cadbury family home, set in six acres of beautiful grounds in Selly Oak, Birmingham. We were originally founded to provide educational opportunities for some of the most disadvantaged and excluded members of society. One hundred years on from the birth of Fircroft College, its mission of 'social justice' is more relevant than ever. Fircroft is a thriving and ambitious College with a vast and diverse community of learners and a strong ethos.

Fircroft is currently in an exciting phase of improvement and development, we are now in a position to appoint a Clerk to our Governing Body. The key purpose of this role is to provide advisory, strategic and administrative support to the Governing Body, ensure the proper and efficient conduct of Governing Body business and promote excellence in College governance. The successful person would also advise the Governors on the proper exercise of their powers within Statutory Instruments issued under the Education Acts (as modified or replaced from time to time), general law and law relating to Charities (including the requirements of the Charity Commissioners), and in accordance with the College's Memorandum and Articles of Association and rules and regulations made under the Articles.

You would need to be independent of the senior management team and provide advice which is unbiased and impartial.

To be considered for this role you must have an understanding of the legal framework within which the Governing Body functions and an appreciation of the need to work within that framework. You must also be able to demonstrate substantial experience of managing committee work including agendas, minutes, organisation of meetings and record keeping; and previous experience in a clerking role within the education sector.

The right person will be someone who enjoys working at a fast pace with a variety of different tasks, who is self-managed with a strong work ethic, who has a positive outlook and a 'can do' attitude and is a completer / finisher.

Benefits at Fircroft include free parking, free cooked lunch, free hot drinks, 32 days annual leave plus college closure days, a relaxed, friendly and unique working environment, 6 acres of beautiful grounds, childcare voucher scheme, pension scheme and a passion for education, social justice and community improvement.
