Finance Manager

Salary range £40-45k


Full Time

Job Purpose:

Full accounting role for several operational sites, including sales analysis, asset management and balance sheet along with office management of the ledger team.


Office Management

  • Manage the finance team comprising of the assistant accountant, sales ledger/credit controller and purchase ledger/stock controller ensuring the smooth running of the department
  • Monitor training and development of members of the finance team
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with the operations management teams together with all the site managers, providing support and information as required

Sales Accounting & Analysis

·Prepare and publish weekly sales flash

·Reconcile and publish monthly revenue in management accounts

·Account for discounts and contractual rebates

·Ensure product sales are correctly accounted for on a monthly basis and work with the sales team to investigate any products not invoiced

·Assist the sales team with reporting and forecasting

·Provide weekly performance information and KPIs via MIS and look to get sites to update the information on the master document


·Prepare monthly accounts and reporting to required deadlines for review by management

·Produce full variance analysis against budget, forecast and previous periods and explain to management

·Ensure the consistent and correct use of chart of accounts and reporting

·Prepare financial accounts and reporting including balance sheet and control account reconciliation

·Audit and verify maintenance and consumables stock held at sites; liaising with Purchase Ledger on the stock takes

·Keep audit files up to date

·Summarise management information on daily, weekly and monthly reports as required


·Adding and disposing of assets through the ledger on a monthly basis ensuring a full reconciliation is kept of the fixed asset suspense account

·Managing and reporting spend on capital projects and KPIs

·Reconciliation of fixed assets to GL

·Managing and reporting spend on major capital projects

Cash-flow & Bank

  • Update cash-flow documents recording the movement of cash in readiness for cash-flow reporting
  • Ensure petty cash is accurately recorded at relevant sites

Inter-company Accounts & Exceptional Items

  • Post any journals required to accurately reflect the inter-company position along with accounting correctly for Exceptional Items

Working with Operations

  • Ensure site managers fully understand their accounts
  • Highlight potential costs savings
  • Review and standardise site processes and controls
  • Provide finance training and support to sites where identified

Budgeting & Planning

·Assist in the preparation of budget and forecast templates

·Prepare capex and depreciation schedules


  • Prepare VAT return schedules ready for review and approval

Statutory Reporting & Tax

  • Provide analysis for statutory accounts and tax packs as required


  • Provide support / training to the business on the use of Sage 200 as required


  • Assist in getting the engineering maintenance stock on Sage200 and assisting the engineering teams with training to ensure all parts are correctly receipted and issued on a daily basis and stock reconciled on a monthly basis
  • Assist in any implementation to improve the processes and/or systems within the department


·Continuous review of the process and control environment seeking operational simplification and efficiency whilst maintaining appropriate risk management and governance

·Be aware of the responsibilities placed on them under the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) to ensure that the agreed health and safety training shall be mandatory for all members of staff.

·Provide cover for other members of the finance team when absent

·Assist with any ad-hoc projects

·Undertake any reasonable requests from management within the company

Person Specification


  • Qualified CIMA/ACCA or ACA
  • Experience of managing people and motivating staff
  • Outstanding Excel skills
  • Broad accountancy experience
  • Self motivated and enthusiastic
  • Good communicator
  • An enquiring mind and curiosity
  • Team worker and ability to adopt a flexible approach to work
  • Influence and facilitate problem solving and decision making
  • Analytical skills
  • Good attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Driving Licence
  • Willing to travel within the UK


  • Use of Sage200
  • Good degree in a maths or science based subject
  • Good planning and organisational skills
