Axon are supporting the University to recruit for a Head of Financial Accounting & Appraisal to play a major part in helping the Finance Department achieve its mission statement of ‘being a leading edge service provider, helping the organisation achieve its goals by providing quality advice on financial matters and implementing necessary financial strategies’. Salary range of £53-73k pension. Closing date: Friday 30th June (apply before) The Role The Head of Financial Accounting & Appraisal will play an integral role in the senior team, managing the financial accounting, business appraisal and payroll teams, delivering an effective and compliant service and in providing advice and support to the senior management team. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Finance you will: • Provide periodic external reports to stakeholders, including the Annual Accounts, for information, compliance and assurance purposes • Manage key external financial relationships, including treasury, tax and audit • Take overall responsibility of the day to day management and smooth performance of the financial accounting, payroll and project team of approximately 10 staff • Apply the accounting standards, disciplines and controls necessary to ensure the integrity of the general ledger, the fixed asset ledger and the payroll to achieve a high level of compliance • Appraise capital and revenue projects across the University using appropriate planning and costing models; preparation of business plans in support of funding applications both internal and external and demonstrate effective use of funds • Provide periodic reports on projects, expenditures, balance sheet, cash and treasury for all University companies • Assist in preparation of financial plans, budgets and forecasts; support delivery of the intended financial targets The Person • CCAB Qualified with managerial experience in a medium or large organisation – experience from outside the sector is welcome • Proven leadership qualities, being able to credibly represent the University • Experience of business plans and costing models in investment appraisal • A proven ability to communicate effectively, developing progressive working relationships with a range of key stakeholders You will be able to demonstrate the ability to lead and further enhance the financial accounting and project department, deliver assurance and develop the team’s capability to support the University by delivering effective and compliant processes.
