Position Description
The role of Contract Quality Manager is defined within the Costain Way document QUA-H-001 (To be explained) and the contract IQVT Plan as the site based person with primary responsibility for verifying that the contract works are being constructed to the appropriate standards by arranging proactive engagement with the construction supervisors, and as appropriate physical examination of work being done, the witnessing of tests, conducting planned activity surveillance and reviews of contractor records.
The role requires an individual who is not only experienced in the relevant aspects of major highway* construction, having a thorough knowledge and understanding of the applicable specifications, but who has also carried out a similar type of role previously.
General Obligations
You are responsible to your Line Manager for the day to day execution of your individual responsibilities defined or referenced below. You shall:
Support your Line Manager and other members of the contract management team.
-Lead the Integrated Quality Verification Team (IQVT) to ensure their planned objectives are achieved.
-Maintain a good working relationship with Client, designer & contractor representatives and other Stakeholders as may be applicable.
-Manage and conduct allocated tasks according to agreed programmes.
-Be conversant with: Costain quality processes incorporated into the contract QMS; agreed Inspection & Test Plans; those drawings, specifications and relevant information related to the work being verified.
-Be aware of and abide by the Group Policy Statements, and implement the requirements of the Costain Way applicable to your role, all of which can be found via CosTeam.
-To cover your absence from site during holiday periods, you are to handover any stated duties to delegates agreed with your Manager.
Health, Safety & Environment

You are responsible for implementing and maintaining safe systems of work in accordance with Site Health and Safety Management procedures, the HASEMP and associated Work Instructions. This includes a regular assessment of new risks and hazards that may not be specifically covered by safety system documentation already in place. Similarly, you should minimise waste, comply with environmental legislation and site specific environmental controls and alert the construction team when either good or poor practices are observed.
Required Experience
-A working knowledge of Business Management Systems and contractual documentation
-Possession of ISO 9001 Lead Auditor qualifications, or Internal Auditor qualifications with the relevant experience of the Construction industry
-Good technical education to at least degree level
-Appropriate professional qualifications and/or extensive technical experience within Civil construction work would be desirable for this senior role
-Computer literate (MS Office suite of software) including MS Visio, with excellent report writing and spreadsheet skills
-Full Driving Licence
-The ability to lead a team of internal auditors and offer clear quality assurance guidance to all levels of management
-Excellent communication skills, with a positive attitude and the ability to work with and manage a team which ensures that quality and contractual issues are identified and closed out in a timely manner
