Salary dependent on experience
To assist the research and development (R&D) team in the research and development of new and existing products from the planning phase to the production phase and providing technical support forquality assurance and production activities. To project manage development projects in accordance with the Company's design control procedures.
Essential Job Functions
·To assist in all aspects of the research and development of new and existing products; this includes, inter alia, being a project manager, participation in project teams, conducting studies, completing project paperwork and organising and supervising production jobs for R&D. The major function of the Research & Development Scientist is to manage a portfolio of research and development projects of different types in accordance with the Company's design control procedures.
·To conduct routine assays of test solutions and active ingredients to support R&D, quality assurance and production activities.
·To use and maintain analytical equipment such as FTIR spectrophotometer, UV/vis spectrophotometer, autotitrator and HPLC apparatus.
·To use routinely and maintain test equipment such as V-Pro 1 Sterilizer,SYSTEM 1 E/EXPRESS/PLUS Processors and any other processing equipment as required.
·To co-ordinate the organisation's programme of stability studies for its products; to include i) regular updating of the dedicated software and disseminating regular reports to R&D and QA on the upcoming testing required; ii) supporting the day-to-day running of the environmental chambers and collection of environmental data as required.
·To assist in the maintenance of the research and development departmental records and systems.
·To maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety in the research and development laboratories ensuring that any defects are reported promptly to the appropriate responsible person.
·To assist in the collection, organisation and recording of data related to assigned tasks.
·To carry out designated tasks within current legislation and guidelines.
·To ensure that all company policies and procedures (Health & Safety, Quality Assurance, Environmental, Disciplinary etc.) are adhered to.
·Be aware of the organisation's Quality Assurance systems and work to ensure that they are maintained.
·Any other duties which can reasonably be expected of the post holder given their knowledge, skills and experience.
A minimum qualification of a BSc degree or equivalent in chemistry or chemistry-related physical science.
Research experience is useful but not essential.
Experienced in writing technical documents such as protocols, reports and design control documents. Some experience and knowledge in the area of medical device product development would be an advantage.
Must be familiar with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) or have other relevant Quality System experience.
Experienced in using Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel & Outlook, knowledge of Microsoft Project would be an advantage.
Nature of Problem Solving
The Research & Development Scientist is required to be a self-motivated team-worker, able to organise tasks and work to deadlines. A flexible attitude to work, attention to detail, the ability to prioritise workloads and capable of working on own initiative are also essential requirements.
